Is Christmas over-rated?

ref #183

Being forced to buy presents and spend time with people you don't really like, overpriced novelty junk in the shops, annoying christmas carols and decorations in the shops in October! The only good thing is the time off work. Am I the only one who thinks it should be cancelled?

Christmas is what YOU make it, if you get stressed out or whatever its really only your own doing, if christmas has become commercial and you hate it because of that then you have actually fallen into the commercial trap. Enjoy it for what it is, time to spend doing what you want, have a day off, relax, be with your friends and family, dont buy presents if you cant afford it, make presents,

But really dont be so blinded by comerciality, surely you can take it or leave it, you dont have to be a sheep and believe in all the hype, or dismiss christmas altogether because you dont agree with all the hype.

Christmas is great! The downsides are only downsides if you let them be (the cup is half-full, dammit!)
Presents are a tad annoying, but with family it shouldn't really matter. If you really can't think of anything just grab something as a joke present, tis truely the thought that counts!
And plus, you get to spend time with the family, which is always brilliant :-)

i think it should stay but it sux how you feel guilty if you dont get someone a present. i dont know how to solve this problem, but we shouldbe able to justbuy presents that we see and think "that would b great for that person." not so that we feel obliged to go looking for presents for everyone

I get round it by having a policy of just not buying any pressies or cards for anyone!
